Each of our patients is referred to us by their dentist, who recognises our team have expertise in endodontic dentistry.

Endodontics is one of the few procedures in dentistry that has a predictable outcome if treatment is performed properly and to a high standard. Our dentists are experienced in providing effective root canal treatment and advice on how to care for the tooth following the procedure.

What is endodontics?

Endodontics is more commonly known as root canal treatment and is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury to the dental pulp.

What causes disease or injury to the pulp?

The most frequent causes are extensive decay, deep fillings, trauma (such as a blow to the tooth), cracks, and gum disease.

What is the result?

When a pulp is left exposed to bacteria infection can occur and, if left untreated, can build up at the tip of the root, forming an abscess. This often causes pain and swelling and can lead to the destruction of the bone supporting the tooth.

What does the treatment involve?

Wherever possible we try to do all the treatment in one visit, but more appointments may be necessary depending on the complexity of the case. The infected dental pulp is cleaned away, the inside of the roots are also cleaned and slightly enlarged and then finally sealed.

Will the root canal treatment discolour the tooth?

This can happen – though rarely. We do have several ways of treating this outcome, such as crowning the tooth, placing a veneer or using a bleaching treatment.

What are the alternatives?

The only alternative is to extract the tooth. This can lead to the surrounding teeth shifting position which may cause further problems. 

Our fees

All endodontic treatment carried out at our referral centre at simplyendo is on a private basis. Please note our revised fees which will be effective for all referrals received at our centre from 1st September 2014

  • Initial consultation * (will be required in most cases) £125

  • Endodontic treatment per tooth £625

  • Endodontic retreatment per tooth, from  £625

  • Post removal, from £250

We will always advise you about treatment costs and treatment options at your first visit. (Fees correct as of September 2014)

* Why is an initial consultation required?

At simplyendo we consider your experience with us to be very important. We have found an initial consultation as an excellent opportunity to discuss issues about the case and the treatment with you. It is also a good way of you getting to know us and the environment and universally we have found that our patients find this initial visit invaluable.

How to settle accounts

We accept most major credit and debit cards (except American Express), cheques (supported by cheque guarantee card) and cash. Due to the increasing charges being passed onto us for processing credit cards, please be aware that a 2.5% fee will be added to your account if you choose to settle with a credit or charge card. There are no extra fees to pay if you settle with a debit card.

Please note that it is our policy that accounts are settled at every visit.

simplyendo is equipped with the most up-to-date technology including digital X-ray facilities and operating microscopes.

There are very few practices outside London that routinely use microscopy for endodontic treatment. We find that it is invaluable for treating complex cases.

We take a number of small X-rays throughout treatment to ensure that everything is going to plan. We use special digital X-rays to reduce radiation (approximately 100 digital dental X-rays are the equivalent of one chest X-ray!).

After your treatment

You may experience a mild discomfort for a few days after treatment. We recommend the use of paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin. In some cases, we will prescribe something a little stronger. Discomfort afterwards does not affect the long-term prognosis for the tooth.

What we expect from you

To attend for your appointments promptly, and if that is not possible to let us know as soon as possible. We will charge 100% of the treatment cost for non-attendance of appointments or late cancellation. Late cancellation means cancelling your appointment 24 hours or less before the scheduled appointment time.

To pay your bills as requested on time. To help you do this we accept cash, cheques and most credit and debit cards
