Welcome to SE Clinical
Each of our patients is referred to us by their dentist, who recognises our team have expertise in endodontic dentistry.
Endodontics is one of the few procedures in dentistry that has a predictable outcome if treatment is performed properly and to a high standard. Our dentists are experienced in providing effective root canal treatment and advice on how to care for the tooth following the procedure.
What is endodontics?
Endodontics is more commonly known as root canal treatment and is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury to the dental pulp.
What causes disease or injury to the pulp?
The most frequent causes are extensive decay, deep fillings, trauma (such as a blow to the tooth), cracks, and gum disease.
What is the result?
When a pulp is left exposed to bacteria infection can occur and, if left untreated, can build up at the tip of the root, forming an abscess. This often causes pain and swelling and can lead to the destruction of the bone supporting the tooth.
What does the treatment involve?
Wherever possible we try to do all the treatment in one visit, but more appointments may be necessary depending on the complexity of the case. The infected dental pulp is cleaned away, the inside of the roots are also cleaned and slightly enlarged and then finally sealed.
Will the root canal treatment discolour the tooth?
This can happen – though rarely. We do have several ways of treating this outcome, such as crowning the tooth, placing a veneer or using a bleaching treatment.
What are the alternatives?
The only alternative is to extract the tooth. This can lead to the surrounding teeth shifting position which may cause further problems.
Root canal treatment explained in a short video
All endodontic treatment carried out at our referral centre at SE Clinical is on a private basis. Please note our revised fees which will be effective from resumption of endodontic services in July 2020
Initial consultation * (will be required in most cases) £150
Endodontic treatment per tooth £750
Endodontic retreatment per tooth, from £750
Post removal, from £275
We will always advise you about treatment costs and treatment options at your first visit. (Fees correct as of July 2020)
* Why is an initial consultation required?
At SE Clinical we consider your experience with us to be very important. We have found an initial consultation as an excellent opportunity to discuss issues about the case and the treatment with you. It is also a good way of you getting to know us and the environment and universally we have found that our patients find this initial visit invaluable.
How to settle accounts
We accept most major credit and debit cards, but during the Covid-19 pandemic we are not able to accept cheques or cash.
Please note that it is our policy that accounts are settled at every visit.
“Just a short note to say thank you for ensuring that my recent root canal treatment was painless and worry free. If I needed root canal treatment again, I would not be at all troubled in visiting your surgery.”
“Thank you to both yourself and your nurse for my treatment in January. I really appreciated you doing the treatment so promptly and the tooth has been fine since.”
“You will be please to know that I did not have any discomfort after you filled the root canals on Monday. Thanks to you, Anita and your reception staff for your kindness and consideration while doing the work. It helped to make it a more pleasant experience.”
And from a patient's father (who is also a dentist)
“Thank you for treating my daughter so kindly and professionally. The root fillings in both teeth have settled down well and I am pleased to say she is free from any discomfort and very happy. We are most grateful for your help.”
To make an appointment
Please contact our clinical reception team on 0161 926 9535. We are open 9:00 to 5:00 Monday-Friday. Outside of these hours, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible
SE Clinical is equipped with the most up-to-date technology including digital X-ray facilities and operating microscopes.
There are very few practices within the UK that routinely use microscopy for endodontic treatment. We find that it is invaluable for treating complex cases.
We take a number of small X-rays throughout treatment to ensure that everything is going to plan. We use special digital X-rays to reduce radiation (approximately 100 digital dental X-rays are the equivalent of one chest X-ray!).
After your treatment
You may experience a mild discomfort for a few days after treatment. We recommend the use of paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin. In some cases, we will prescribe something a little stronger. Discomfort afterwards does not affect the long-term prognosis for the tooth.
