10 day endodontic programme

 

Our next available simplyendo 10 day endodontic programme starts on 4 October 2017 at our second training centre here in North West England, based in Formby, just North of Liverpool.

This programme runs on two consecutive days a month, allowing you to rapidly acquire a new confidence in your endodontic diagnosis, case planning and treatment.

Programme details

The dates for the modules are:

  • Wed 4th and Thurs 5th October 2017

  • Wed 15th and Thurs 16th November 2017

  • Wed 13th and Thurs 14th December 2017

  • Wed 17th and Thurs 18th January 2018

  • Wed 7th and Thurs 8th Feb 2018

This programme will take place at simplyendo's latest dedicated endodontic teaching centre based in Formby, Liverpool.  Our endodontic training centre is unique in the UK with its state of the art equipment, spacious teaching rooms and a fantastically enthusiastic team. Remember simplyendo only provides contemporary endodontic teaching by contemporary endodontic clinicians ! 

Our programmes provide in-depth training in the latest endodontic techniques and skills. Your confidence in cleaning, shaping and filling root canals will increase – and become more profitable and enjoyable.

Aims and objectives

Aims and objectives

simplyendo provides an endodontic coaching programme for dentists that:

  • teaches the biology of endodontic disease

  • demonstrates and discusses contemporary endodontic techniques, using an evidence-based scientific approach

  • is delivered by the simplyendo team of dentists and clinical assistants

  • this results in predictable endodontic care of the highest quality

 Participants will develop:

  • an understanding of the aetiology of endodontic disease

  • the ability to assess the likely prognosis for successful endodontic treatment

  • the ability to carry out an appropriate treatment with a high degree of predictability

They will:

  • experience the use of rotary canal preparation techniques and thermal obturation systems

  • appreciate the importance of both apical and coronal seals

  • understand the difficulties of retreatments and concepts such as resorption

  • understand the management of trauma

They will also:

  • experience the very latest and evidence-based endodontic opinions

  • be in an excellent position to make valid diagnosis and choose appropriate treatment plans

Your commitment, participants are expected to:

  • Attend each of the ten full-day sessions

  • Take part in hands-on practicals and get involved in group discussions

  • Prepare for each session by reading a selection of refereed research articles, as well as making use of the recommended reading list

 

Module 1-5 topics

Module 1- 5 topics

Hands-on techniques are demonstrated both live and with the use of video. The ratio of didactic to hands-on training is 50:50.

Participants are encouraged to have a go themselves, using all of the contemporary endodontic preparation and obturation systems currently available in the UK. The hands-on sessions allow participants the opportunity for an unbiased look at the different systems and materials.

Module 1

  • Aetiology of endodontic disease

  • Prognosis of non-surgical endodontic treatment

  • Mechanical properties of endodontic instruments

  • Endodontic instrumentation techniques: balanced force filing

Module 2

  • To understand aims and objectives

  • Critical evaluation of research papers

  • Endodontic instrumentation techniques

  • Stepback and balanced force

  • Creating tapers with hand files

  • Bacteriology of endodontic disease

  • Focal infection, bacteraemias, anachoresis and the hollow tube theory

Module 3

  • Diagnostic procedures

  • Diagnosis of non-odontogenic pain

  • Medically-compromised patients

  • Tooth morphology

  • Radiographic interpretation

  • Present day irrigants

  • Endodontic instrumentation

  • Techniques: crown down vs stepback, effect of varying instrument geometry, neutral vs positive rake angles

Module 4

  • Pulpal response to caries and dental procedures

  • Pulpal irritants

  • Anatomy of the pulp and periapex

  • Endodontic length determination

  • Apex locators

  • Vertical root fractures

  • Introduce the variants of the K3 rotary filing system

  • Importance of a glide path in preventing instrument separation

  • Mechanism of fracture of rotary NiTi files

  • Introduce Thermafil

Module 5

  • Navigating pulp chambers

  • An overview of Nitinol alloy: its use in the development of rotary NiTi instruments

  • The role of NiTi in preparation of curved canals

  • Tomorrow's irrigants

  • Review of thermal obturation: history and contemporary techniques

  • Introduce the RaCe NiTi rotary system and compare with Protaper

  • Use of antibiotics in endodontics

  • Prediction of endodontic pain and use of analgesics

  • Alternative obturation materials: introducing resin base GP replacements

  • Thermal obturation using resilon, gutta flow, endorez.

  • Introduce the TriNiti filing system

  • Interappointment medicaments and temporary fillings

Module 7

  • Assessing success and failure of endodontic treatment using clinical and radiographic parameters

  • Review periods

  • Endodontic retreatment

  • Causes of failure of endodontic retreatment

  • Biology of the failed endodontic case

  • Tactics in overcoming failure

  • Removal of GP from canals: instruments and solvents

Module 8

  • Restoration of the endodontically treated tooth

  • Importance of coronal seal: endodontics and intraosseous implants

  • Treatment planning

  • Use of root filled teeth as abutments

  • Amalgam dowels

  • Nyaar cores

  • Gold posts

  • Gold sectional posts and cores

Module 9

  • Tooth lightening: internal and external

  • Internal and external resorption

  • Orthodontics and endodontics

  • Endodontic trauma: pathogenesis and treatment

  • Apexification and apexogenesis

  • Use of apical barriers in endodontics, eg MTA, and other bioceramics

Module 10

  • Endodontic/periodontal relationships

  • Procedural misadventures

  • Pulp capping and pulpotomies

  • Removal of instruments, posts etc from canals

  • Use of ultrasonics

  • Course evaluation

  • Ongoing training programmes

The programme complies with the requirements of the General Dental Council as verifiable CPD and provides 60 hours of verifiable CPD.

The accompanying reading material provides up to 80 hours of non-verifiable CPD.
